Mexico fireworks market explosion kills 27

The number killed in the fireworks market explosion north of Mexico City jumps to at least 27, with scores more wounded, authorities say. Gavino Garay reports.

Jose Luis Tolentino was driving along a highway in the Mexican city of Tultepec when this happened. A fireworks market explosion that emergency officials say killed at least 27 people and injured some 70 others. The explosion happened just north of the Mexican capital. Emergency workers say that number killed is only an initial estimate. Rescuers on scene are still searching for survivors and television footage showed destroyed buildings and charred stalls. This isn't the first such explosion in Mexico. A fireworks blast just before the country's 2005 independence day celebration injured scores. Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto has offered his condolences to the victims of this latest blast.
