Authorities in Hawaii removed 25-year-old Turkish man Anil Uskanil from the plane after he allegedly tried to force his way into the cockpit midflight. Officials say Uskanil had to be subdued by an off-duty law enforcement officer and others on board. The disturbance on American Airlines Flight 31 prompted the U.S. military to scramble two Air Force fighter jets to escort the flight. The plane landed safely in Honolulu at 11:35 a.m. local time, with no injuries reported. Officials say they're preparing to charge Uskanil with interference with a flight crew. It remains unclear what his motivation was.
