ROUGH CUT - NATURAL (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Gun control activists gathered outside the U.S. Department of Justice Saturday (June 15) to protest gun violence in the United States. Conceived by the same activists who organized January's Women's March in Washington, the protesters wrote on their Facebook page that they believe the NRA "encourages violence against people of color, women and political activists." The protest sought to highlight gun deaths in the United States, particularly domestic violence and murders of women. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 33,594 people were killed by firearms in the United States in 2014. About a third of those were homicides. Saturday's protest came a day after the same group braved near-record hot temperatures for a 8.5-mile (30-kilometer) march from National Rifle Association (NRA) headquarters in Virginia to the Department of Justice.
