A stern warning for Donald Trump as he considers America's next move in Afghanistan. The Afghan Taliban penning a lengthy open letter to the U.S. president saying the situation on the ground is quote "far worse that you realise" and sending in more troops would be self-destructive. The letter also slams the Afghan government, labelling officials "stooges" and "lying corrupt leaders" who are feeding Washington "rosy pictures" of the military position. It also says that the only thing preventing the Taliban from seizing major cities is a fear of causing civilian casualties. The unusual decision to address Trump comes as he weighs up the future of U.S. policy in Afghanistan. Several thousand additional troops have been requested by senior army officials. But suggestions of more boots on the ground have been met with scepticism in the white house, where Trump and several top aides have criticised years of American military intervention.
