Funeral held for trooper killed in Charlottesville helicopter crash

A funeral was held in Richmond for Virginia State Police Trooper-Pilot Berke M.M. Bates who was killed on Saturday when his helicopter crashed after he tried to quell clashes between white supremacists and counter-protesters in Charlottesville. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) A funeral was held in Richmond for Virginia State Police Trooper-Pilot Berke M.M. Bates who was killed on Saturday when his helicopter crashed after he tried to quell clashes between white supremacists and counter-protesters in Charlottesville. Bates is one of two Virginia state policemen who were killed in the helicopter. Helicopter pilot, Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen, was the other man who died at the scene and his funeral is schedule for Saturday August 19th. The pair were among three people who authorities said died in connection with the violence near the main campus of the University of Virginia. A 32-year-old women died when a car plowed into a crowd dispersing after police broke up the melee in the city's downtown.
