Airline suspect started out in Lagos - Dutch NCTb

AMSTERDAM, Dec 26 (Reuters) - A Nigerian man who tried to ignite an explosive device on a plane to Detroit had boarded in Lagos and passed through security checks at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport while in transit, Dutch authorities said on Saturday.

The Dutch counter-terrorism agency NCTb said the man boarded a KLM flight from Lagos to Amsterdam and from there connected with a Delta Air Lines flight to Detroit. He “went through a security check on Schiphol and (the) security procedure has been handled as it should be,” an NCTb spokeswoman said.

The NCTb said in a statement it could not rule out the potential for dangerous items to be brought on board, “especially objects that with the current security technology such as metal detectors are difficult to detect”. (Reporting by Ben Berkowitz; editing by Myra MacDonald)
