BRIEF-Athletics-Women's pole vault pioneer Dragila retires

PARIS, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Former Olympic and world champion Stacy Dragila, the pioneer of women’s pole vaulting, has retired at the age of 38.

“It was great to be a pioneer in the sport and to be the first one to win a gold medal at the Olympics”, the American, who won the inaugural women’s Olympic title at the 2000 Sydney Games, told reporters on Wednesday.

Dragila, who cleared 4.55 metres to win her final event in Paris on Wednesday, said she now planned to become involved in coaching.
