UPDATE 1-AT&T in union pact for 26,000 workers

* 70 pct of 120,000 AT&T landline workers with agreements

* latest contract represents about 9 pct of total staff

NEW YORK, Oct 13 (Reuters) - AT&T Inc (T.N) said it had reached a tentative labor contract agreement covering 26,000 of its landline telephone workers or about 9 percent of its total workforce of about 290,000.

If approved by union members, the agreement with the Communications Workers of America for workers in the Southwest region, would be AT&T’s fifth union agreement this year.

The company said that roughly 70 percent of its approximately 120,000 landline workers now have either tentative or ratified union agreements.

The agreement announced on Tuesday, still needs to be ratified by the workers. (Reporting by Sinead Carew; editing by Carol Bishopric)
