Friday’s game between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park was postponed due to heavy rain in Boston.

The game will be made up June 8 as part of a day-night doubleheader.

The decision to postpone the opener of a three-game series was made approximately 40 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. Forecasts in the area called for thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rains and strong winds all through Friday night.

The Red Sox purchased the contract of right-hander Josh Smith from Triple-A Pawtucket for Friday’s start but will start David Price Saturday followed by Chris Sale on Sunday.

Charlie Morton was slated to start for Tampa Bay and he will start Saturday followed by Tyler Glasnow on Sunday.
