The Horned Frogs scored eight straight points over a 1 1/2-minute stretch beginning at the 4:01 mark to tie the game at 59. Texas responded with Febres’ key 3-pointer that gave it a 62-59 lead.

RJ Nembhard then converted two free throws with 1:17 to play before a Texas turnover and two missed shots by the Horned Frogs. TCU had a final chance to win after a second Texas turnover with six seconds left but Nembhard could not control the ball with three seconds to play, allowing Texas to escape with the win.

Courtney Ramey added 12 points for Texas (13-7, 3-4 Big 12) while Jericho Sims added nine points and took a game-high 13 rebounds for the Longhorns. Texas snapped a three-game losing streak.

Kevin Samuel and Nembhard led TCU (13-7, 4-3) with 17 points each. Desmond Bane hit for 12 points for the Horned Frogs, who have lost four of their past five games.

Texas owned a 28-27 lead at halftime thanks to Febres’ 3-pointer with five seconds remaining. The Longhorns led by as many as five points over the first 20 minutes while hitting six of their 10 shots from beyond the arc.

Samuel’s 13 points in the half on 6-for-7 shooting paced the Horned Frogs, who outshot Texas 45.8 percent to 35.7 percent but made just 3 of 8 free throws. Febres led the Longhorns with nine points in the first half.

Texas took charge of the game in the first seven minutes of the second half, hitting seven of its first 13 shots to help forge an 8-0 run that gave it a 45-35 lead. The Longhorns looked to be in command until TCU’s final run late in the game as Nembhard and Francisco Farabello hit key 3-pointers to pull the Horned Frogs even.

Texas has won 19 of the last 26 meetings against the Horned Frogs.
