BASF seeks EU antitrust approval to buy Bayer assets

BRUSSELS, March 8 (Reuters) - German chemicals maker BASF has asked EU Commission approval to buy drugmaker Bayer’s seeds business, a regulatory filing showed on Thursday.

The European Commission has set a preliminary deadline to decide on the matter by April 16.

Bayer has offered to sell the business to help assuage regulators’ objections to its $63.5 billion purchase of Monsanto .
