Preview: Phillies at Mets

Jose Reyes is making the most of an otherwise difficult stretch run for the New York Mets and looks to stay hot when they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in the second of a three-game series. Reyes homered, singled and walked twice in Monday’s 11-7 win and is batting .419 with nine walks, 12 runs and four stolen bases since coming off the disabled list Aug. 26.

His 10-game hitting streak is his longest since 2015 and the 34-year-old has scored at least one run in each of those contests, the longest string of his career. New York snapped a four-game slide with the victory and improved to 36-16 against Philadelphia since the start of the 2015 season. Jacob deGrom has helped fuel the Mets’ recent dominance in the rivalry and is 2-0 with a 1.37 ERA in three starts against the Phillies in 2017. He gets the nod Tuesday opposite Philadelphia rookie Ben Lively.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Ben Lively (2-5, 4.22 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (14-8, 3.43)

Lively has allowed exactly two earned runs in four of his last five starts but was not victorious in that stretch until defeating Miami his last time out. The Central Florida product let up two runs in 6 1/3 innings in a tough loss at Citi Field on June 30. He is 1-3 with a 3.82 ERA in six road starts.

The initial attempt for deGrom at becoming a 15-game winner for the first time was unsuccessful, although he was solid in six innings of a loss at Cincinnati on Thursday. He limited the Phillies to a run and three hits while fanning 12 in the previous meeting at home June 30. Few Philadelphia hitters have done well against deGrom, but Freddy Galvis is 6-for-22 and Nick Williams has two hits in six career at-bats.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Mets plan to start RHP Matt Harvey on Wednesday on short rest, despite the fact that he gave up seven runs in two innings Saturday at Houston in his return from shoulder surgery.

2. New York OF Norichika Aoki is 5-for-14 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored in three games since being acquired from Toronto.

3. The Phillies activated CF Odubel Herrera (hamstring) from the 10-day disabled list.

PREDICTION: Mets 6, Phillies 3
