Belarus rouble falls, eyes support from Russia

MINSK, May 19 (Reuters) - The Belarussian rouble extended losses in light trade on Thursday, hitting record lows while the market anticipates financial help from Russia, market sources told Reuters.

The rouble weakened to 8,000/9,000 against the dollar BYR= on the interbank market, down from 7,100/7,600 a day earlier.

Market players were awaiting the outcome of a meeting between Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Belarussian authorities, also on Thursday. (Reporting by Andrei Makhvosky; Writing by Andrey Ostroukh; Editing by )
