OTTAWA, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Canada will not go into deficit to manage the economy as the global fiscal situation deteriorates, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Tuesday, taking a swipe at what he described as the spendthrift ways of the opposition Liberal Party.
“The way to manage this economy through difficult global times is not -- as the Liberal Party would do -- to drive us into deficit,” he told the House of Commons. Canada is the only member of the Group of Seven industrialized nations that is running a budget surplus. (Reporting by David Ljunggren; Editing by Peter Galloway)
