Brazil economic activity down less than expected in January

SAO PAULO, March 19 (Reuters) - Economic activity in Brazil contracted in January for the first time in six months, the central bank said on Monday, though at a slower pace than expected.

The central bank’s economic activity index fell 0.56 percent from December, below the median forecast in a Reuters survey of economists of a 0.80 percent decline. (Reporting by Bruno Federowski Editing by Catherine Evans)
