British government, company owner must save British Steel-union

LONDON, May 21 (Reuters) - Britain’s GMB union demanded British Steel worked with the government to save steelworks and thousands of highly skilled jobs after a source said the Greybull Capital-owned company was on the verge of collapse.

“Yesterday the government, alongside trade unions and employers, signed a UK Steel Charter at Westminster,” said GMB National Officer Ross Murdoch.

“They must now put their money where their mouth is. GMB calls on the government and Greybull to redouble efforts to save this proud steelworks and the highly skilled jobs.” (Reporting by Guy Faulconbridge and Paul Sandle; editing by Michael Holden)
