NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX rose 96.01 points, or 0.62 percent, to 15,602.32.
Leading the index were Aphria Inc, up 12.9 percent, Cronos Group Inc, up 11.9 percent, and Aurora Cannabis Inc , higher by 8.8 percent.
Lagging shares were OceanaGold Corp, down 6.4 percent, Canfor Corp, down 5.8 percent, and Norbord Inc, lower by 5.0 percent.
On the TSX 137 issues rose and 92 fell as a 1.5-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 13 new highs and 1 new lows, with total volume of 245.0 million shares.
The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc, Aphria Inc and Cronos Group Inc.
The TSX’s energy group rose 1.73 points, or 1.17 percent, while the financials sector climbed 1.20 points, or 0.41 percent.
West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 0.98 percent, or $0.54, to $54.72 a barrel. Brent crude fell 0.1 percent, or $0.06, to $62.69 [O/R]
The TSX is up 8.9 percent for the year.
