Brazil's EBX files EIS for $4.4 bln Chile project

SANTIAGO, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Brazil’s Grupo EBX, an international resource holding company, said on Wednesday it submitted an environmental impact study to develop a $4.4 billion thermoelectric plant in Chile’s mineral-rich north.

EBX said the proposal was submitted by its MPX Energia de Chile unit and involved building thermoelectric turbines, a coal-fired plant, an electrical sub-station and a plant to desalinate sea water.

Grupo EBX is the holding company owned by Brazilian billionaire Eike Batista that includes companies operating in mining, logistics, oil and gas, real estate, energy, renewable resources and entertainment. (Reporting by Monica Vargas)
