SANTIAGO, May 2 (Reuters) - A 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook central Chile on Sunday and was felt in the capital of Santiago, but there were no reports of any damage, the state emergency office said.

The U.S. geological survey said the quake’s epicenter was about 135 km (84 miles) southwest of Santiago.

“There are no reports of any damage,” said a spokeswoman for state national emergency office, ONEMI.

The Navy said there was no tsunami alert.

State copper giant Codelco, the world’s top producer of the metal, said its operations were not affected by the tremor.

The latest quake came two months after Chile was struck by a magnitude 8.8 earthquake and ensuing tsunamis that killed about 500 people and caused an estimated $30 billion in damage to infrastructure, homes, industry and lost productivity.
