China's power consumption falls 7.8% y/y in Jan-Feb - state planner

BEIJING, March 17 (Reuters) - China’s electricity consumption in the first two months of 2020 fell 7.8% year-on-year, a spokeswoman at state planner the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on Tuesday, as the coronavirus outbreak dented power demand.

The NDRC did not give an absolute figure for power consumption.

Daily power generation reached 17.8 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) on March 16, up 9.9% from 16.2 billion kWh in late February, the spokeswoman said.

China’s power generation in January and February combined fell 8.2% year-on-year to 1.03 trillion kWh, statistic bureau data showed on Monday. (Reporting by Muyu Xu and Tom Daly; Editing by Christian Schmollinger)
