MILAN, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Italy’s public finances are healthy but in any case the European Stability Pact provides room to tackle exceptional events, Economy Minister Roberto Gualtieri said on Thursday.
“Italy’s public finances are in good shape, we have some room to intervene”, Gualtieri said in an interview with daily Il Messaggero, when asked about the impact of the outbreak of coronavirus on the economy.
“That said, the Stability Pact envisages the possibility of adapting to the economic cycle and to tackle exceptional events”, he added.
Gualtieri said that the government was preparing two decrees to respond to coronavirus impact and reiterated that Italy’s growth would be negatively impacted by the outbreak of the virus.
