China to allow farmers to use land, property as loan collateral

BEIJING, Aug 24 (Reuters) - China will launch a pilot programme allowing farmers to use their land and property as collateral for loans, said the State Council on Monday.

The document said the move was aimed at deepening financial reform and stepping up financial support for farmers.

Until now farmers have struggled to obtain loans to expand farm sizes or invest in rural businesses. (Reporting By Dominique Patton and Kevin Yao; Editing by Michael Perry)
