Dutch court says government must cut greenhouse gases faster

AMSTERDAM, Dec 20 (Reuters) - The Dutch High Court upheld on Friday a ruling ordering the government to cut greenhouse gas emissions faster than planned and to ensure they are at least 25% below 1990 levels by the end of 2020.

Emissions in the Netherlands were 15% lower than in 1990 last year, and are expected to be reduced by around 23% in 2020, the government’s environmental advisory body said last month. (Reporting by Bart Meijer; Editing by Edmund Blair)
