U.S. issues timetable for carbon emissions cuts

WASHINGTON, Dec 23 (Reuters) - U.S. environmental regulators issued a timetable on Thursday for rolling out rules requiring power plants and oil refineries to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

President Barack Obama is pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to force polluters to cut emissions after the climate bill failed this year. Republicans set to take power in Congress have vowed to stop the EPA, saying the rules will harm the economy. (Reporting by Timothy Gardner)
