N.J. judge tosses lawsuit against debt collection law firm

A federal judge in Trenton has dismissed a proposed class action claiming New Jersey law firm Ragan & Ragan violated federal law by sending collection letters that appeared to be from attorneys but were mass-produced and mechanically signed.

In a decision on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Freda Wolfson said consumers did not support their allegations that the letters were misleading and were not from an attorney in any meaningful sense.
