TOKYO, May 22 (Reuters) - Toys R US-Japan Ltd 7645.Q said on Thursday it would recall about 15,000 barrettes and other hair accessories made in China as they have been found to contain higher-than-acceptable levels of lead.
No health problems have been reported related to the products, all of which were sold in Japan, the Japanese unit of U.S. toy retailer Toys “R” US Inc said in a statement.
Toys R US-Japan will recall a total of five products manufactured at a Chinese plant of U.S. hair accessories maker Almar Sales, said company spokeswoman Eri Armstrong.
In safety tests, the Japanese government found that the amount of lead in two products exceeded the limit set in the country’s toy safety standards, and the company decided to recall three other products from the same brand, she said.
More than 20 million toys made in China have been recalled worldwide since June 2007 as of March due to potentially dangerous levels of lead in paint and easy-to-swallow parts.
