Danish Conservatives appoint Barfoed new leader

COPENHAGEN, Jan 14 (Reuters) - The Danish Conservative Party named Justice Minister Lars Barfoed new party leader on Friday to succeed Lene Espersen.

Foreign Minister Espersen resigned on Thursday after party members revolted due to weak opinion poll ratings in an election year, but she said she would keep her ministerial post.

Barfoed, age 53, became justice minister in February 2010 in a reshuffle of the centre-right coalition government after serving as transport minister since 2008.
