MUMBAI, Sept 25 (Reuters) - India’s cotton output may touch 32 million bales in the 2008/09, slightly higher than previous year’s estimated 31 million bales, a senior official said on Thursday.
“If the weather conditions remain good, I am optimistic that the crop output may touch 32 million bales,” A B Joshi, textile commissioner said in a conference.
Union Minister of Textiles ShankerSinh Vaghela told Reuters in May output may touch 35 million bales in year ending September 2009, but erratic monsoon trimmed the estimates.
“I am expecting cotton exports to take place this year also. But quantity will depend on world prices,” Joshi said.
