Labor Department drops bid to revive Obama overtime pay rule

The Trump administration on Tuesday dealt the final blow to a U.S. Department of Labor rule that would have extended mandatory overtime pay to millions of workers, moving to drop an appeal of an order that blocked it.

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a motion to dismiss its appeal with the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, less than a week after a federal judge in Texas said the rule was invalid and struck it down. The agency said its appeal was moot as a result of the judge’s decision.
