Philly asks judge not to block salary history law

The city of Philadelphia has asked a federal judge to reject a local business group’s bid to block a law banning employers from asking job applicants about their salary history pending a legal challenge.

The city’s lawyers in a court filing on Friday told U.S. District Judge Mitchell Goldberg that the city had the authority to enact the law to address discriminatory wage gaps, and that the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia had not shown it was likely to succeed on claims that the law violated companies’ free speech rights.
