U.S. appeals court voids exemption from EPA mercury reporting rule

A U.S. appeals court on Friday held that some importers are not exempt from a federal rule requiring them to report their use of mercury.

In a 3-0 decision, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan voided a Environmental Protection Agency regulation excusing importers of products with mercury-added components, such as battery-powered watches, from reporting requirements.
