Ninjas in Pyjamas win European regional, gain momentum for Major

Ninjas in Pyjamas beat ENCE 3-1 in the best-of-five finals Sunday to win the $105,000 Intel Extreme Masters Season XVI -- Fall: Europe.

NiP got out to a quick lead with a 16-8 win on Overpass, but ENCE evened the match with a 16-7 win on Mirage. But NiP outlasted ENCE on Ancient, 16-14, then quickly finished off the contest by prevailing 16-6 on Nuke.

With the win, NiP cemented its Legends status at the $2 million PGL Major Stockholm, which is scheduled to run Oct. 25-Nov. 7.

This will be the first Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event since the StarLadder Major more than two years ago. Part of the tournament will be played before a live audience.

In all, 24 teams will compete in Stockholm. While some teams already had clinched a berth in the Major over the past 18 months of qualifying, it came down to this tournament for others.

The Copenhagen Flames finished seventh in the European competition, but that was good enough to earn the final berth for Stockholm.

Other teams from the Europe region playing in the Major are ENCE, BIG, Astralis, G2, Movistar Riders, Heroic and FaZe.
