EU says Ireland has not asked for financial help

BRUSSELS, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Ireland has not requested any financial aid from the European Union, the EU’s executive arm said on Friday. “We have not received request from the Irish government for any financial support, therefore we are not commenting on any speculation, rumours or statements by other parties,” a European Commission spokesman told a news briefing, when asked to comment on market talk that an 80 billion euro bailout had already been agreed for Ireland and would be announced next week.

“I will not comment on any possible preparatory work that would be undertaken by the Commission,” the spokesman said.
