Eurogroup's Juncker says no need for Greece IMF aid

PARIS, Jan 14 (Reuters) - It would not be appropriate for Greece to seek financial aid from the International Monetary Fund, the chairman of the Eurogroup of euro zone finance ministers, Jean-Claude Juncker, said on Thursday.

Juncker said he had spoken to IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn, as well as to Greece’s finance minister and prime minister.

“We do not think that assistance from the IMF to Greece would be appropriate or welcome,” Juncker told reporters after meeting French President Nicolas Sarkozy. (Reporting by James Mackenzie; Writing by Anna Willard; Editing by James Regan)
