STOCKHOLM, March 28 (Reuters) - Swedish Bankers’ Association, which represents banks and financial institutions in Sweden, has stripped Birgitte Bonnesen of her role as chair of the body, after Swedbank’s board removed her as its CEO on Thursday, a spokeswoman said.
Bonnesen has held the position since 2017 when she took over from SEB’s former CEO and holding it had put her in the driving seat to work with Swedish and European regulators and policymakers in establishing rules for the banking industry.
The spokeswoman for the Swedish Bankers’ Association, which is a member of the European Banking Federation, said that the association’s board would elect a new chair in due course. (Reporting by Esha Vaish; editing by Niklas Pollard)
