Screenshots of a satirical article that says a CNN news report praised the Taliban for “responsibly” wearing face masks have duped social media users into thinking the claim is authentic.

An image appears to show a CNN news report with a breaking news caption that says: “Taliban fighters responsibly wearing masks.”

One individual added in the comments: “CNN...is sick! No wonder there are so many disturbed people in this country! insane, fake news!!” Another said: “It has to be a joke!”

While the screenshot originates from an article published on the satirical website Babylon Bee, some users still posted the image of the falsified news report and took it out of context.

The article, published on Aug. 14, is entitled: “CNN Praises Taliban For Wearing Masks During Attack.” (archive.is/Qfs3i).

The image used is not recent. It and was taken Nov. 2, 2007 and published by Reuters (here).

The Babylon Bee describes itself as “the world’s best satire site” and writes about “Christian stuff, political stuff, and everyday life” (archive.is/h9YMW).
