Fact Check-False social media posts about Danny DeVito

Social media claims that actor and director Danny DeVito has died are false. An online publication from a known satire website is responsible for the claims.

A Facebook post, visible here , published a post captioned, “So sad. Rest in power, little man!”

The post links to an article bearing the headline, ‘Danny DeVito, Beloved Actor and Avid Trump Supporter, Dead at 74’ is viewable archive.md/0kYjP .

The page boasts the tagline “CONSERVATIVE TEARS / DEATH HOAXES FOR YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.”

The about page for the website (archive.md/jlTeq) describes the site Conservative Tears as “a subsidiary of the ‘America’s Last Line of Defense’ network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery.”

The website openly says that everything on the website is fiction. An explainer on the site reads, “It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined. Any similarities between this site’s pure fantasy and actual people, places, and events are purely coincidental, and all images should be considered altered and satirical. See above if you’re still having an issue with that satire thing.”

MediaBiasfactcheck.com rates (here) Conservative Tears as a satire website.

A Reuters search for death announcements for DeVito returned no credible results.

DeVito, who recently turned 77, is active on Twitter (twitter.com/DannyDeVito).
