Social media users are falsely claiming that Facebook has changed its hate speech policy to include the anti-Biden phrase “Let’s go Brandon”.
The text in one post reads: “BREAKING NEWS: Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but Facebook is reportedly changing their hate speech policy. #LetsGoBrandon”
Reuters found no credible news reports that this specific phrase would be banned by the tech giant. Content on Facebook with the phrase is still online and visible.
There is no evidence that this will change.
When asked, the company told Reuters via email that it did not change its hate speech policies in regard to the phrase. “Let’s go Brandon” or “F*** Joe Biden” would also not violate the hate speech policy without further context, Facebook said.
The hate speech policy is visible here and does not include the phrase.
“Let’s Go Brandon!” is a chant against U.S. President Joe Biden inspired by an interview with an NASCAR driver in which profanities against him were heard in the background (here) and Business Insider (here).
False. Facebook did not change its hate speech policy to include the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon”.
