Fact Check-Video of demonstrators throwing objects at Dutch police is not related to farmers’ protest

Social media users have mistaken a video of a Dutch protest over COVID-19 measures in August 2020 for a July 2022 protest by farmers.

The 39-second clip shows plain-clothes officers retreating to a van after being surrounded by protesters, some of whom are seen throwing objects (here , here and here).

“Undercover police try to infiltrate the Dutch Farmers protest, but we’re caught,” wrote one Facebook user on July 5 (here).

Farmers have been protesting in the Netherlands against government plans that may require them to use less fertilizer and reduce livestock. This is due to targets introduced in June to reduce harmful nitrogen compounds by 2030 (here).

But the video is not related to the 2022 farming demonstrations. It is from August 2020 and shows a group of people in The Hague attacking police officers during a protest against COVID-19 restrictions (here).

Miscaptioned. The video shows a protest over COVID-19 measures in 2020.
