Fact Check-Tractor videos are not 2022 demonstrations against vaccine mandates

A compilation of three clips shared online has been miscaptioned to suggest it relates to recent demonstrations against vaccine mandates. The first two clips are of farmer demonstrations in Brussels, Belgium, in 2015, while the third was filmed in May 2021 during a protest in Oslo, Norway.

Three different clips of tractor drivers demonstrating in urban areas have been clipped together to form a 13-second video that has been shared widely by social media users in recent days with false claims that the videos show demonstrations against vaccine mandates. The first clip shows tractors pushing toward a police line, while the second shows a tractor spraying a substance towards police in riot gear. The final clip shows several tractors driving through a city.

One iteration of the 13-second video shared on Twitter had over 170,000 views at the time of writing. (here).

The clips are not related to 2022 demonstrations against vaccine mandates, however.

Although Reuters could not find the source of the first clip, a reverse image search revealed it was previously shared by a journalist on Twitter on Feb. 7, 2015 (here).

The clip also featured in news reports published by Irish outlet The Journal and The Daily Mail (here), (here).

In September 2015, more than 5,000 farmers and 1,000 tractors gathered at European Union buildings in Brussels to demand support for a sector hit by a Russian ban on EU food imports (here).
