Fact Check-Image of George Clooney wearing an anti-Trump T-shirt is digitally altered

A widely shared image appearing to show U.S. actor George Clooney wearing an anti-Trump T-shirt has been digitally altered. In the original photo, the T-shirt advertises a brand of tequila.

The manipulated photograph appears to show Clooney wearing a black t-shirt marked with text reading: “Losers in 1865, losers in 1945, losers in 2020” next to images of a Confederate flag, a Nazi flag and a Trump cap.

“Well done George,” a social media user says in a comment under one of the posts. “Best shirt ever. Evil has a way of losing,” another adds.

The original image taken by photographer John Lamparski in New York on Sept. 8 (here) shows the image on the T-shirt advertised 'Casamigos Tequila', made by a company co-founded by Clooney and businessman Rande Gerber.

The original image was also published in numerous outlets, including The Independent and E! News (here and here).

Reuters has previously addressed pictures of political messages superimposed onto clothing worn by celebrities (here , here and here).

VERDICT

Altered. George Clooney is not wearing a T-shirt with a slogan against former U.S. President Donald Trump in the photo. The image has been digitally altered.
