Fannie Mae escapes lawsuit over foreclosure misreporting

A federal judge in San Francisco has ruled in favor of housing finance giant Fannie Mae in a 2017 lawsuit accusing it of falsely reporting that thousands of consumers’ homes had been foreclosed on.

In a decision on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge William Orrick ruled that Fannie Mae cannot be held liable for violating federal or California credit reporting laws for its alleged misreporting because it is not a consumer reporting agency subject to those laws.
