BANK OF AMERICA CORP (BAC.N)
Merrill Lynch brokerage head Daniel Sontag is retiring from Bank of America Corp. Sontag, named head of Merrill’s network of financial advisers just five days after the Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank bought Merrill on Jan 1, was a 30-year veteran of the firm. [ID:nN04157379]
The investment banking unit of Royal Bank of Canada appointed Henry Michaels, Jerry Wiant and Sean Burke to its U.S. investment banking financial institutions group (FIG).
Michaels will serve as co-head of the group, alongside Jean-Luc Servat.
Wiant will co-head RBC’s U.S. depositories group, along with RBC managing director Richard Quad, while Burke will join as a managing director.
Most recently, Michaels, Wiant, and Burke worked at Citigroup.
The financial services company named Katie Beavan as global chief human resources officer. She will report to Russell’s CEO and will also serve as a member of the firm’s executive committee and global leadership forum. Prior to joining Russell, Beavan was a senior equity partner at Robert H. Schaffer & Associates.
KOHLBERG KRAVIS ROBERTS & CO
DeNoma was chief executive of Standard Chartered’s global consumer bank from 2000 to 2008 and was also a group executive director and head of strategy. [ID:nN03544944]
Miami lawyer Stephen Zack, a partner in the law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner, was elected as president-elect of the American Bar Association.
Zack will serve one year as president-elect before taking office as president in August 2010.
His one-year term as ABA president-elect is effective immediately.
The financial group named Greg Lapointe as senior vice president.
He will be responsible for statewide business development and will serve as the economic development liaison for the bank with economic development organizations throughout the state.
Prior to joining South Carolina Bank and Trust, Lapointe was the midlands market president for Wachovia.
The provider of tax services appointed Mark Everson as vice chairman. Everson was commissioner of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service from 2003 until 2007.
MUNICH RE GROUP (MUVGn.DE)
Munich Re America, a unit of the German reinsurance company, promoted John Asturia to president of the Regional Clients division. Prior to that he was head of facultative certificate.
The financial services company appointed Paul Ackermann as vice president of currency select sales for North America. Previously, he was head of sales for North America in Travelex’s outsourcing division.
The New York-based investment firm launched its Mudrick Distressed Opportunity Funds, Jason Mudrick, the firm’s founder and chief investment officer, said.
