The U.S. investment bank hired the father and son team running London-based boutique investment bank Schechter & Co. for its European fixed-income division. Stephen Schechter becomes a senior adviser for Bear Stearns and his son, Lawrence, has been appointed managing director of debt capital markets.
BNP PARIBAS (BNPP.PA)
The Paris bank appointed Olivia Frieser to its credit research team to cover banks and financial companies. Frieser, who worked for Morgan Stanley, will be based in London.
STANDARD & POOR’S
Publisher McGraw-Hill Cos Inc MHP.N is replacing the president of its financial services division Standard & Poor’s, effective immediately, amid questions about the role of credit-rating agencies in the subprime mortgage crisis.
Deven Sharma, who joined the company in 2002, replaces Kathleen Corbet, who is stepping down to pursue other opportunities. Sharma will report to Harold McGraw III, the chairman, president and chief executive of McGraw-Hill.

The law firm hired tax partner Matthias Kuhn, an expert on private equity and merger and acquisition transactions, for its Frankfurt office. He joins the firm from the Frankfurt office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
The real-estate arm of Aberdeen Asset Management Plc ADN.L has named Jon Lekander as chief investment officer. Lekander, who was previously head of investment strategy, will now focus on the implementation of defined investment strategies for Aberdeen’s property funds.
The firm also appointed Alessandro Bronda, currently the head of European Research, as the new head of investment strategy to replace Lekander.
The insurance service unit of Marsh & McLennan Cos Inc (MMC.N) has hired Douglas Ure as senior risk consultant in its risk strategies services team. Ure, who joins from Primary Group Ltd, is based in Marsh’s London office.
The boutique investment management firm named Bob Bennett as its first independent nonexecutive director, effective Sept. 1. Bennett was previously finance director of Northern Rock.

Jaromir Netzel, the chief executive of state-controlled insurer PZU, has been sacked following his detention by prosecutors, Poland’s treasury ministry said. The prosecution service detained the CEO of Poland’s largest insurer and charged him with hampering the investigation into a leak in an anti-corruption case.
