Brock Purdy had 349 yards of offense to go with four touchdowns — two on passes — as the Iowa State Cyclones beat TCU 49-24 in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday.
Purdy completed 19 of 24 passes for 247 yards and he ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns to help the Cyclones (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) get their first conference win.
Johnnie Lang rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns and Deshaunte Jones had 10 receptions for 110 yards for Iowa State.
Max Duggan was 17 of 25 for 219 yards and two TD passes, Darius Anderson ran for 49 yards and a score and Jalen Reagor had four catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns for the Horned Frogs (3-2, 1-1).
The start of the game was pushed back two hours due to weather.
Purdy had two touchdown passes in the first half — a 1-yarder to Chase Allen to open the scoring in the first quarter and a 25-yard connection with Charlie Kolar in the second — to help build a 21-3 lead at halftime.
The defense scored in the second quarter when linebacker O’Rien Vance sacked Duggan and forced a fumble. Eyioma Uwazurike picked up the ball at the 1 and ran it in to make it 14-3.
Purdy opened the third-quarter scoring with a 10-yard TD run. After Duggan had a scoring strike to Reagor, Lang ran for the first of his two touchdowns to put the Cyclones ahead 35-10.
The Horned Frogs, who came into the game averaging 40.5 points a game, got their offense going. Anderson scored on a 5-yard run and Duggan hooked up with Reagor again to make it 35-24 with 9:01 left.
Iowa State responded with a 75-yard drive in just five plays to make it a three-score game. The big play was Purdy’s 32-yard pass to Landen Akers, and a facemask penalty on the play set up the Cyclones at the TCU 9.
Purdy scored on the next play to make it 42-24.
Reagor fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Lang scored four plays later to seal it.
