BERLIN, Aug 31 (Reuters) - The number of unemployed Germans fell slightly less than expected in August, the Federal Labour Office said on Thursday, adding that the jobless rate remained at a record low.
The jobless total fell by 5,000 to 2.532 million in seasonally adjusted terms, data showed, compared with the consensus forecast in a Reuters poll for a fall of 6,000.
The unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.7 percent, the lowest level since reunification in 1990 and in line with the Reuters poll.
“The labour market is continuing its positive trend,” Detlef Scheele, head of the Labour Office, said in a statement. “The strong growth in employment is continuing and companies’ demand for new staff is still high.”
