Greece opts for property levy to boost budget revenue

THESSALONIKI, Greece, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Greece on Sunday announced a new tax on real estate to make up for budget slippage and meet this year’s deficit target, its finance minister said after an informal cabinet meeting.

“It is a special levy on property which will be collected through electricity bills,” Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos told reporters. (Reporting by Harry Papachristou)
