ATHENS, June 30 (Reuters) - Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos welcomed parliament’s approval on Thursday of the implementation bill for a 28 billion package of austerity measures required under an EU/IMF bailout.
Approval of the measures clears the way for Eurogroup finance ministers to approve release of a vital 12 billion euro loan tranche which Greece urgently needs to stave off bankruptcy.
“I am very satisfied because now I can go to Eurogroup strengthened by a vote of confidence and two approved bills,” Venizelos told Reuters, referring to Sunday’s meeting of finance ministers.
“We can now move to the next stage of finding a viable solution,” he said. (Reporting by Renee Maltezou; editing by James Mackenzie)
