Massachusetts court weighs $1.66 million wage award for biotech president

A lawyer for billionaire H. Fisk Johnson on Tuesday urged Massachusetts’ top court to toss a $1.66 million award to the ex-president of a failed biotech company Johnson backed, warning it would send a “chilling message” to future startup investors.

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court was hearing the appeal in the case brought by Andrew Segal, the cofounder and president of Genitrix LLC, who sued Johnson and his board appointee Stephen Rose for unpaid wages from 2007 to 2009.
