STOCKHOLM, March 18 (Reuters) - Scandinavian hotel chain Nordic Choice said on Wednesday it was laying off 7,500 staff in the region due to the effects the coronavirus was having on the travel industry.
“It is a mixture of temporary and permanent lay-offs due to the situation with the coronavirus, and its among the Nordic countries together,” Chief Executive Torgeir Silseth told Reuters.
“I have been in the industry for many years and this is the worst thing we’ve ever experienced...so we have to take this drastic step to keep our business afloat,” he added. (Reporting by Colm Fulton; editing by Simon Johnson)
